January has come and gone and we have settled back into our busy routine of work and school. We've had some quieter weekends and done lots of organizing around here post-Christmas. Just when I thought things were getting good and we got the upstairs put back together after the floors were installed and sorted and purged the kid's toys and play spaces and got their rooms cleared out as well, the kid's bathroom was demoed and in the process the water valve let go and we woke up last week Saturday am about 6:45 to Sarabeth who was the first one up frantically telling us "it is raining in the living room"...WHAT.....I ran downstairs not even awake to find water spots all over the living room ceiling, my wood bookcase and cabinet and my new custom couch was being poured on as the water was spewing out the air conditioning vent. NOT what we wanted to wake up to and I immediately thought THANK GOD we were home this weekend when this happened as the water was only flowing likely for a few hours...we had gone to be Friday night around 11:30 and nothing was wrong so sometime between 11:30 pm and 6:30 am something went wrong!!! We immediately moved furniture and tried to wrap our minds around what was happening and stopped the water flowing. Next came the insurance claim and we have lived with an outright mess and loud fans blowing all over downstairs and in the bathroom upstairs all week drying out the walls. The restoration company did that and the insurance adjusters were finally here today....more on this later as it unfolds. WHAT A MESS. Drywall and ceilings have to be torn out...we just re did this stuff not two years ago so I am LITERALLY FIT TO BE TIED. I don't care that we will get insurance money I am sick and tired of living with contractors constantly and the constant shuffling of our belongings.
I hosted a baby shower that same day the water leak occurred for a friend which thankfully was NOT planned to be at my house, and the week prior we also celebrated Jon's 38th birthday! We snuck over to the lake for the MLK long weekend this past month, we've been doing lots of exercising, not much eating, and lots of work this past month. We've had a cold hit our house again this past week, Sarabeth got it first, Jack got a touch, and Jon got it, so far I am the loan survivor. Let's hope it stays that way because based on this week and others in our house doing nothing for themselves or anyone else, if something happened to me they are all dead. We have a quiet weekend coming up hoping everyone can rest and get over this rotten cold. They finally started on our dock and boathouse repairs over at the lake and we are hoping the new dock and boathouse will be fully in and finished in time for our trip over there for President's day weekend...FINGERS CROSSED. See, we are living with contractors LITERALLY EVERYWHERE RIGHT NOW.
We also said goodbye to our babysitter, Haileigh, who moved to Germany this month, and Sarabeth got a Falcon award at school for doing something Christian and wonderful, and was recognized, and she also lost her second big tooth, so she is singing all I want for Christmas are my two front teeth about a month late! Jackson is doing great in school this quarter and taking more ownership of his work and his grades show it...and we are AHEAD and nearly at goal for our reading for Accelerated Reader for both kids and we are not even to midterm yet!!!
Here are some pictures of our household adventures in January!!!
